“Together, no matter the distance”
Amidst the height of COVID, Miramonte High School was determined to continue bringing people together and uniting them through the power of theater. To overcome the obstacles posed by social distancing and remote learning, Clara and Love/Sick’s Technical Director James Steichen came up with a system of green screens, virtual audio cables, cameras, Zoom rooms, and OBS to get students from all over town to appear as if they were sharing the same physical space.
Behind the Scenes…
The actors for each scene met in separate classrooms across campus with green screen rigs, a laptop, camera, and microphone. The laptops were connected to a zoom meeting which sent the live footage to Clara’s laptop back in their home. The footage would be run through software that would put the actors together on a virtual background and add sound effects when necessary. The final product was then sent back to the actors’ laptops as well as a separate zoom meeting that broadcasted to the audience.
